The Africa Health Agenda International Conference is now just a month away. Slated for March 7-9, 2017, the conference brings together researchers, policy makers, practitioners, the private sector, advocates for health and civil society to reflect on home-grown solutions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals across the continent.

 

The Conference venue is the Radisson Blu in Nairobi. Over 450 delegates are expected, with interest being boosted by the high calibre of the keynote speakers at the event and programme with rich subject content. Registration is ongoing here.

 

The conference will have two major side events – a Youth Pre-Conference Forum   Youth Pre-Conference Forum on March 5-6, and a Hackathon on March 7-8.

 

Group discussions at the 1st Hackathon Meet-up

 

The Hackathon will bring together innovators to find solutions to challenges at community level that result in maternal and newborn deaths. Two meet-ups have been held in preparation for the Hackathon, both live-streamed, at which innovators have interacted with community members, health experts and health workers to get an indepth understanding of the issues and begin to creatre  suitable solutions.The Hackathon is sponsored by Takeda Pharmaceuticals and has already attracted the attention of hundreds of innovators.

 

A pre-conference event in September 2016 introduced the agenda for the conference to the public and provided an opportunity for dialogue between various stakeholders, including government and private sector players, on partnerships to improve health outcomes in Africa.

 There has been deliberate engagement with the media to build awareness about Africa’s health agenda and the SDGs leading up to the conference to build awareness both in the media and public.

Two workshops, one targeting journalists and the other editors, have been held, with attendance by representatives of Kenyan and international media.
