In a bid to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rates in the continent, Amref Health Africa in Kenya merged forces with Takeda Pharmaceutical Company and Nailab (Nairobi Incubation Lab) to bring in innovators from different parts of Kenya and Africa who will build startups that help reduce the mortality rates by focusing on the challenges faced by expectant mothers.

15 finalists were shortlisted to participate in the 48 hour long Hackathon at Amref Health Africa Head Quarters.

After 2 months, judges finally presented 3 winners of the Innovate4Life Hackathon.

1. HelpMum – Nigeria
2. Chanjo Plus – Kenya
3. Wekebere – Uganda

These individuals were developing solutions that respond to the significant challenges faced by mothers and infants across the continent. The solutions they have come up with will seek to reduce the high rates of maternal and newborn deaths in Africa.
