Strengthening Strategic Health Purchasing in Sub-Saharan Africa to drive Universal Health Coverage

Have you ever wondered how to access information and experts on strategic purchasing in Africa? Look no further! The Strategic Purchasing Africa Resource Centre (SPARC) is a new initiative that will link government agencies, academic institutions and NGOs implementing strategic purchasing across Africa. Born out of a partnership between Results for Development (R4D) and Amref Health Africa, SPARC will serve as the “go‐to” resource for strategic purchasing needs and demands on the continent.

In a world of scarce resources, getting more and better quality health from existing resources is not only imperative, but smart and responsible. SPARC’s vision is to strengthen strategic health purchasing capacity in sub-Saharan Africa to get more value for money spent on health. The SPARC model is built around three strong pillars: connecting and mentoring regional strategic purchasing experts across the African region; providing tailored implementation support to African countries; and serving as a resource center that countries can routinely turn to understand what has worked in specific contexts and what has not.

SPARC will be hosting a high-level side event at the Africa Health Agenda International Conference on 7 March 2019 in Kigali, Rwanda. Join us to learn more about why strategic purchasing is key to Africa’s vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage and how the SPARC initiative will address strategic purchasing demands in Africa.
