Nutrition as a Critical Component of Universal Health Coverage
Organised by Nutrition International
The first Nutrition Symposium at the Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) is a unique forum for governments, health experts, development partners and civil societies to discuss the importance of integrating nutrition into development plans and budgets in the context of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Africa is one of the continents with the heaviest burden of malnutrition in the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 57 million children in Africa are stunted and 14 million suffer from wasting. There is an increase in childhood stunting, anemia in adolescents and women of reproductive age; and overweight among women in Africa.
