Barbara Profeta (PhD)
Barbara has over eighteen years of overseas experience in humanitarian and development work, across a variety of positions and organisations, including the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, the UN family, NGO and private consulting firms. She has been managing offices and programmes in a dozen of different countries on four continent, with a major focus on fragile and conflict-affected environments. About half of her initial career has been dedicated to thematic work around protection of civilians in armed conflicts, promotion of human rights and protection of children and youth. After completing her PhD on International Public Health and Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2008, Barbara has been progressively engaged in programmatic and advocacy work related to the strengthening of distressed health systems, linking research and operations, as well as promoting “unlikely partnerships” with non-State actors. Barbara is currently working as Regional Health Advisor for the Horn of Africa at the Swiss Development Cooperation and is also a board member of the Technical Working Group on Fragile and Conflict Affected States attached to the Health Systems Global research network. She is married and mother of two little girls.
