Why purchase strategically?

Africa is at a critical moment in the pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). While most countries recognize the importance of “Health for All”, funding constraints present a very real challenge to the attainment of this goal.

Strategic purchasing can maximize utility from existing health resources and bridge the gap between limited resources and the vision for UHC in Africa. It allows governments to get more value from their money by proactively and deliberately deciding which health services to procure, from whom to purchase, and how to pay for them.

Strategic Purchasing Africa Resource Center (SPARC)

SPARC – a new regional resource hub hosted by Amref Health Africa – is aimed towards strengthening strategic purchasing capacity in sub-Saharan Africa by connecting regional expertise and matching it with country demands, with the larger purpose of making ‘Health for All’ a reality.

As SPARC begins its journey with countries in sub-Saharan Africa, an official launch event will take place on 07 March at AHAIC 2019 in MH3.

The event will feature an immersive storytelling session, a brief presentation by the SPARC leadership and an in-depth panel discussion with well-known health experts on translating commitments into impact-driven action.

Participants and attendees can also visit SPARC at Booth 9.
