The Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) is a biennial conference that brings together stakeholders from across the globe to discuss and address pressing health challenges in Africa. Here’s a brief overview of its history and development:
The AHAIC was initiated by Amref Health Africa, a leading health organization in Africa, with the primary goal of providing a platform for sharing knowledge, innovations, and strategies to improve health outcomes on the continent. The conference aims to foster collaboration among governments, health organizations, the private sector, and civil society to tackle health issues affecting Africa.
The 5th Biennial AHAIC took place in Kigali, Rwanda, from March 5 to 8, 2023. Over 2,000 delegates from more than 50 countries participated in the event. For the first time, the conference featured an exciting physical activity session called “Wogging” – a combination of jogging, running, and walking – during Kigali’s Car Free Day. This activity actively engaged participants before the official opening of the conference, promoting healthy living.
Key Outcomes:
At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 4th edition of AHAIC was held in 2021 as the first virtual conference of its kind, under the theme “Decade for Action – Driving Momentum to Achieve UHC in Africa.” This exciting virtual experience saw participation from 3,000 delegates representing 98 countries across the world.
AHAIC 2019 was held in Kigali for the first time, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Rwanda. The theme was “Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Africa by 2030,” and the event attracted delegates from 49 African nations.
