AHAIC is an Amref Health Africa’s flagship biennial convening that brings together diverse stakeholders from around the world to discuss successes, challenges, and opportunities for improving health outcomes in Africa.

Now in its 5^th edition, AHAIC 2023 – jointly convened by the Ministry of Health – Rwanda, African Union, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and Amref – will bring together global thought leaders, political figures, innovators, researchers, policy makers, health workers, youth and community mobilisers for dialogue and action aimed at mainstreaming climate discourse into health policy conversations, and vice versa. The conference will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre, Rwanda, 5-8 March 2023.

The past three years of Covid-19 experience have proven that  need to be better prepared for the next health threat. Inevitably, the global challenges of the next decade – climate change, conflict, and food insecurity – will have a ripple effect on Africa’s health and change our lives in unimaginable ways.

If we are to face these formidable challenges, we require the brightest minds to challenge the status quo and bolster preparedness by birthing a new set of initiatives and institutions. Countries and multilateral institutions cannot afford to continue with a business-as-usual approach but instead, must come together to bridge the gap between the global north and south and foster a relationship of equity, solidarity, and trust.

Join us to share, learn, network, and drive systemic change through meaningful dialogue that seeks to unearth African-led solutions to the continent’s most pressing health, climate, and development challenges.

AHAIC 2023 is the biggest global health convening in Africa that brings together prominent global voices to challenge the status quo and mainstream climate action into health policymaking to build resilient health systems in Africa.

At a time when many global health convenings systemically discriminate against and diminish the contributions of Africans and other participants from the global south, this first-of-its-kind committed to tackle complex health, climate, and development issues in a sustainable, inclusive, and contextually relevant manner.

AHAIC 2023 will focus on mainstreaming climate discourse into health policy conversations, and vice versa, to build resilient health systems that can withstand the challenges of tomorrow.

Diverse voices from across sectors will collectively de-silo health and climate conversations, re-envision the future of health and development in Africa and lay the foundation for stronger south-south collaborations to drive tangible action.

AHAIC 2023 promises to be jam-packed with thoughtfully curated high-level plenaries, inspiring parallel sessions, exciting workshops, networking opportunities and an exciting wogging event (walking/jog/run) which will be held in solidarity with the City of Kigali on their No Car Free Day.

AHAIC 2023 is an in-person conference. However, select sessions will be livestreamed for virtual audiences and communicated closer to the event date. To attend the conference in person in Kigali, Rwanda, please register here.

The 400 USD conference registration fees are inclusive of: airport pick-up, access to conference related events, pass to the networking sessions, lunch and two tea breaks daily for the three main conference days (6^th-8^th March 2023). Fees are exclusive of accommodation, airfare, hotel transportation to the conference and visa fees.
