Media Scholarship

To ensure comprehensive and balanced media coverage of the conference, Amref Health Africa will offer 30 media scholarships to journalists from across Africa. This scholarship programme is designed to empower media professionals by providing them with the resources and access needed to report on the key discussions and outcomes of the conference. 

Scholarship Benefits: 

  • Roundtrip, economy-class airfare to Kigali. 
  • Visa cost, where applicable
  • Accommodation and meals for the duration of the conference. 
  • Local transportation to and from the conference venues in Kigali.  
  • Access to all conference sessions, including the dynamic “Walk4Life” event, main plenaries with global leaders, and partner-led side sessions on critical issues affecting Africa. 

Scholarship Recipients’ Obligations: 

  • Actively participate during the full duration of the Conference.  
  • Publish at least three articles or interviews related to the conference and its themes. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Affiliation: Journalists affiliated with recognised local, regional, or international media outlets, including print, broadcast, and online platforms. 
  • Freelancers: Freelance journalists with a proven track record of covering health, science, or development issues, supported by published work. 
  • Content Creators: Bloggers, podcasters, and digital content creators with a substantial following and a focus on health, wellness, or development topics. 

 Application Requirements: 

  • Statement of Interest: A statement detailing why the applicant wants to attend AHAIC 2025 and how they plan to cover the event. 
  • Work Samples: Samples of previous work related to health, science, or development reporting. 

 Key dates: 

  • 1 October 2024: Scholarship applications open 
  • 5 February 2025: Scholarship applications close 
  • 10 February 2025: Applicants are notified of outcomes
